I will make the first post here seeing rifles are my fav-o-rite
As many of you know SURPLUS AMMO prices have gone out of sight. I started my battle against ammo prices with the ruger 10/22 using Tech Sights to simulate a US battle rifle.
This works very well for a 25 yard trainer.
As always YOU WANT MORE....
Well I picked up this little gem the other day a Winchester model 52 pre "A" dated 1929
Well I had to take it to the range and just see what this girl would do.
I started out a 25 yards trying to get use to the sight pic and trying to find the nitch.
after that I moved to 50 yards
Then 100
Then 150
I had some trouble as you can tell with the groups at 100 and 150 I just could not find a good hold on the target. I am going to blame it on the SUN
THEN I WENT TO 200
10 Rounds of 22lr on a 8 inch "shootnc" target that is standing at 200 yards...(THAT IS 4 MOA BY THE WAY:wink: ) and landed 4 in the target and 3 more outside. With the other 3 going who knows where.
It was about 37 degrees F and no wind, ammo was Federal 550 count brick from wally world. I am going again to the range and try it again. This time with some Winchester "x-pert" 22lr. The federal is a High velocity round while the x-pert is a Standard velocity round. I am thinking it may make a difference in a rifle this old....WE SHALL SEE. |

made it back to the range to try some REMINGTON TARGET 40gr. Round Nose ammo.
The weather was not all that great for shooting for groups but it was what I was dealt. Temp was mid 40s, Thunder storms lumming and wind gust up to 30 mph STILL I was iching to go to the range.
I set up a 100 yard target...I fired 10 rounds but 9 is in the target
I then went to 200 after alittle windage adjustment
I did not want to mess up my group or I would have shot more out at 200
I think the Rem Target ammo is what I am going to settle with. I have tried different ones and this one seems to do the best... |
